He brought hope as he promised prompt ,vigorous action, and asserted in his Inaugural Address,

他的及時有力的措施帶給人們希望，印證了他的那句話，

"the only thing we have to fear is fear itself"

He was elected President in November 1932.

1932年他當選為總統。

In his first hundred days ,he proposed a sweeping program to bring recovery to business and agriculture,

在他就任一百天里，他建議大幅推行計劃重振商業與農業，

relief to the unemployed and to those in danger of losing farms and homes ,and reform.

減少失業，救助那些處于失去農場和家園的危險之中的人們，同時改革。

By 1935 the Nation had achieved some measure of recovery,Roosevelt adopted a new program of reform :

到1935年，國家經濟有所恢復，羅斯福推行一項新的改革計劃：

Social Security,heavier taxes on the wealthy,new controls over banks and public utilities,

社會保障，對富人加重稅收，對銀行和公共設施加強控制，

and an enormous work relief program for the unemployed.

對失業人員的持續的救助計劃。

Nor need we shrink from honestly facing conditions in our country today.

This great nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper.

So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself

nameless ,unreasoning unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.
