must be 通常表示推測(cè),此時(shí)的must表示“一定”。如:
There must be a mistake. 一定是弄錯(cuò)了。
There must be some book which could help. 一定有那么本書可以幫我們的忙。
I don’t know how much he’s got, but it must be a few million. 我不知道他有多少錢,但肯定有好幾百萬(wàn)吧。
Jane’s light is on. She must be at home. She can’t be out. 簡(jiǎn)的房間里開著燈。她一定在家,不會(huì)出去的。
That can’t be the only way. There must be other ways of solving the problem. 那不是解決問(wèn)題的唯一辦法,肯定有另外的辦法。
He has a house in London and another in Paris, so he must be rich. 他在倫敦有一棟房子,在巴黎又有一棟房子,可知他一定有錢。
must be 有時(shí)也不一定表示推測(cè),而是表示“必須”。如:
A car must be insured. 汽車必須投保。
There must be no doubt about this. 這一點(diǎn)不能含糊。
Water must be pure if it is to be drunk. 水如供飲用必須凈化。
Loyalty must be earned. It can’t be bought. 忠誠(chéng)必須靠自己贏得,它是買不來(lái)的。
You must be working when the inspector comes in. 檢查員進(jìn)來(lái)時(shí)你必須在工作。
Something must be done to stop these accidents. 必須采取某種措施以防止這些事故。
